Wastewater Recycling and Effluent Redirection

Leach field overload can cause significant issues for septic systems. When a leach field becomes overloaded, it can result in sewage backups and a general inefficiency in septic operations. This occurs because the soil in the leach field is unable to properly absorb, percolate and filter the effluent.

As a result, wastewater may not be adequately treated before being absorbed into the ground, leading to environmental contamination and a high risk of system failure. Proper management of septic systems maintains their functionality and prevents costly repairs or replacements.

How SludgeHammer® Allows for
Advanced Wastewater Recycling

Recognizing the importance of water conservation, SludgeHammer® also provides a sustainable recycling option for redirecting effluent-rich water. For areas with limited well water, this solution involves redirecting treated effluent from the septic system’s treatment tank to a pump tank and a sub-surface drip grid. With this system, homeowners and businesses can significantly reduce their reliance on potable water for irrigation, creating a more self-sufficient and environmentally friendly water management solution.

Hurricane Katrina Project

Community Case Study

After Hurricane Katrina, offshore oil rigs in New Orleans needed quick repairs, and large workforces had to be housed on barges. The challenge: processing wastewater without polluting the environment.

Flat river barges were used as platforms for worker housing, but Louisiana couldn’t allow sewage from 120 workers to be dumped directly into the rivers and bayous. SludgeHammer’s portable wastewater treatment system, the Aerobic Bacterial Generator (ABG), provided a solution.
